Irene’s – Where do you work?
Jennifer – I primarily work on my own with auto injury and spinal cord injury patients; I also work for a great company called Better Life Homecare.
Irene’s – What are your specialties?
Jennifer – I am trained in Ashiatsu Barefoot massage which I also absolutely love but my I would say my greatest “specialty” is making people feel comfortable and at ease.
Irene’s – What are your favorite modalities, or what techniques do you find most effective?
Jennifer – It really depends on each case, I work with a population that is fragile and has a different set of concerns than others. Some patients need deep tissue and some can’t tolerate it at all.
Irene’s – What was you greatest success with a client?
Jennifer – My longtime client consistently says to me how much I’ve changed his life and how much he appreciates me every time I see him.
Irene’s – Where is the first place you worked?
Jennifer – I started out in Chiropractors offices.
Irene’s – To what do you attribute your success?
Jennifer – I believe it’s a combination of my touch and my personality. I become very invested in my clients’ wellbeing and I genuinely care about their lives and healing.
Irene’s – What is your favorite aspect of your career?
Jennifer – I love working with the disabled community. It’s so much more rewarding than working in the spa world. It makes me so happy that they get such tremendous relief in ways that goes beyond massage. I have made an almost 20 year career from going to school at Irene’s. I have been able to afford my daughter private school etc. I also love that I don’t have to work 50 hrs. a week to make a decent living. The sense of genuine joy I get from knowing my hands are actually generating such healing for my clients. They depend on me and when I walk in their doors they are so happy to see me each and every time. That is a wonderful feeling.
Irene’s – What do you do for self-care?
Jennifer – To be honest, I need to get more massages myself! I enjoy reading and being outdoors.
Irene’s – What marketing do you feel has worked best?
Jennifer – For me it’s been word of mouth. I honestly have never used marketing.
Irene’s – Do you have any advice for new therapists?
Jennifer – Success takes time. I’ve been at this for almost 20 years and I’m only recently at the place where I feel I’ve found my niche. Try working in any and all areas of massage to find your own personal fit.
